Bobbie and the Dinos

2D Hand drawn * Ages 6-11 * 11 Minute * LGBT Fantasy Story Girl Positive

Bobbie is an adventurous young trans girl who lives in a medieval-style town next to the Kingdom of Dinosaurs. She desperately wants to be as free and fearsome as a dinosaur, but her mother pushes her to be more ladylike and traditionally girly. She meets Tyranna, Queen of the dinosaurs, who is plenty fearsome, ruthless and stubborn, but would actually prefer to wear pretty dresses and go to tea parties! Together they travel through the kingdom and face cranky knights, angry peasants, wacky dinos, and learn being a girl is what you want it to be.

Bobbie and the Dinos explores gender identity in a fun and kid-friendly way, mixing the feel of Steven Universe with the dino-mite action of Jurassic Park. It combines the very real issues of living as a girl with the fun of dinosaurs! A cute character-driven comedy full of wacky characters, fun physical humor, and a heartwarming tone of validation as the characters and audience realize the power of being a “girl”.

Characters

Bobbie: Roberta “Bobbie” Blackberry was assigned male at birth, but quickly realized that it wasn’t how she felt. Her parents re-named her Roberta, and raised her as a girl. Girl or not, Bobbie is a 10 year old ball of energy who loves everything about dinosaurs. She wants to learn all their names, master their language (which is a lot of roaring), collect their feathers to dress as one, and ultimately be fearsome enough to do whatever she wants. She hates frilly “girly” things and would prefer jumping through trees rather than putting on a fancy dress, but the more she hangs out with Tryanna, the more she realizes that girly things may not be all bad.

Tyranna: Queen Tyranna was raised to be a bloodthirsty, intimidating beast, but didn’t want to have to be feared to be respected. She saw human ladies in pretty dresses and knew instantly that that’s what she wanted the entire time! She was determined from that moment on to find the perfect dress–though one in her size is difficult to come by. Not used to being told ‘no,’ she directed her entire kingdom to find her a pretty dress and make her the belle of the ball.

Mom And Dad: Bobbie’s parents are opposites attracted. Mom is strict and steady, while dad is a pushover scaredy-cat. Still, they both love and  support Bobbie, wanting her to be proud of being a girl. They just misjudge what kind of girl Bobbie wants to be.

The Dinosaurs:  Tyranna is the ruler of many dinosaurs, including Raf, her loyal raptor knight, Appy, the kind Apatosaurus nanny who raised her, and Gigi, the brutish Gigantasaurus who wants to take over Tyranna’s kingdom.

Springboards

Pilot: Bobbie’s mother forces her to wear a big frilly dress. Before she can show it off, dinosaurs attack! Bobbie takes the chance to run away and live as one of the dinos, only to find the Queen of dinosaurs, Tyranna, LOVES her dress and wants it for herself. The dinos try to get it off of her, but they can’t because they don’t have thumbs! . Bobbie and Tyranna go toe-to-toe about whether being a dino or a lady is better.

Knights and Dolls: Tyranna wants to learn all the proper ways to dine like a noblewoman, and so steals several sets of knights’ armor to play tea party. Bobbie is frustrated with the girly activity, until the knights show up wanting their armor back.

The Ankylo Club: Bobbie finds a dinosaur fan club in a town, but it’s only for boys. Desperate to impress them, she introduces them to Tyranna. Seeing a REAL dinosaur scares them and their pitchfork-wielding parents, who try to run the ‘Monster’ out of town.

The Amazing Bobbina: To earn some money, Bobbie pretends to be a magician with a “tame” dinosaur. Tyranna hates being seen as a beast, and Bobbie must rekindle their friendship.

Sauropod People: Raf struggles to fill in Tyranna’s claws as leader of the dinosaur kingdom while she and Bobbie are away, especially when Gigi try to take it over. He forms a group of small dinosaurs to go after her and bring her back.

Not Named Jo: Bobbie and Tyranna go to the kingdom’s library where they meet another girl who loves dinosaurs. Bobbie feels she’s found a kindred spirit,  but this girl doesn’t like Bobbie’s wild child ways.
